Third day: Thursday
Lake Carhuacocha 4,150 m – Siula Punta Pass 4,830 m – Huayhuash 4,300 m
Distance: 14.2 km / Ascent: 867 m / Descent: 694 m
The coffee is ready.
As usual, we sit down in the team tent for breakfast at 6:30 a.m. The smell of real
Espresso awakens our thoughts that are still almost in dreams.
The breakfast of eggs, bread, muesli flakes (granola) and fruit salad made from fresh fruit delights our palate.
A few raindrops are falling outside, making us wonder what to wear after breakfast.

Julio reassures us: It will be a beautiful day.
We pack up, take down our tent, wait until Julio is available to pack the mules, and set off.
As if stung by a tarantula, Julio runs ahead. Is he trying to test us? We don't know, but we follow him relentlessly, along Lake Carhuacocha and then up to the viewpoint, where we can once again see the beautiful Gangrajanca Glacier Lake from the previous day.
In fact, just as we are about to move on, we hear thunder again from the glaciers opposite the lagoon and we once again witness a magnificent natural spectacle.
After the short descent back to the ascent route to the Siula Punta pass, the route continues at the same pace as before.
We overtake all the groups camped at our camp, one after the other, until we reach the pass at 4,830 m.
Despite the pace, I manage to take a few photos of our now beloved glacial lake and the lagoons below.

After the race to the pass, Julio gives us time for photos and a drink break before continuing down towards Huayhuash, where our next camp is located. The long, gentle trail lets our eyes repeatedly wander to the snow-capped peaks above us on the right.
The views over the last three days have been simply unsurpassable; a feast for the eyes for anyone who loves mountains.
Today seems to be the crowning stage, both in terms of distance and view. I'm curious to see how the trek continues and whether the impressions we've already had can be topped.
